The interior of the Iowa Capitol is one of the most ornate in the nation. Twenty-nine varieties of marble, and many fine woods are found throughout the building. There are many statues and fine artworks that tell different stories of civilization.
Other things to see include a model of the USS Iowa, bells from the ship, dolls depicting former first ladies, a 26 ft long photographic reproduction of the 168th Infantry after WWI and the Iowa Constitution.
At various times throughout the year the building is alive with activity. It remains the center of government for the people of Iowa. The General Assembly, Supreme Court and Governor continue to serve Iowans in the building.
